Chi Sau Club is a full-time Kung Fu school in Surry Hills, Sydney, specializing in traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu. Led by Sifu Mark Spence, who has been practicing Wing Chun since 1984 and teaching full-time since 1988, the club emphasizes an “internal” approach to power generation. This method relies on the movement and rotation of one’s center of mass to generate force, focusing on superior balance, relaxation, and postural alignment rather than brute strength.
Chi Sau Club welcomes individuals of all ages, sizes, and physical abilities. Our students range from 4 to 74 years old. The training is designed to be adaptable, allowing each student to choose the intensity and impact level that suits them best.
No prior martial arts experience is necessary. Our approach enables anyone, regardless of background, to develop the skills necessary for self-defense while improving overall confidence and well-being.
We pride ourselves on maintaining a friendly, relaxed, and supportive atmosphere, free from ego, aggression, or strict hierarchy. There are no gradings or mandatory uniforms, fostering a community-centric environment.
Interested individuals can book a free trial session to experience our training firsthand. Alternatively, you can contact us directly or visit the school to observe a class.
Chi Sau Club is located at Level 1, 418 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW 2010.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement, such as a t-shirt, track pants, or shorts. No special uniforms are required.
No equipment is needed. Just bring yourself, comfortable clothing (flat soled shoes are preferable) and a water bottle. Tea and coffee are provided.
Classes typically run for 90 minutes, however students are free to come and go as they please (like a gym) and an instructor will be available during opening hours to provide guidance outside of classes.
This is entirely up to the individual, however for best results we would recommend at least twice a week. Students are provided with resources (videos and guided meditations) that allow them to continue their training at home in their own time. Due to the nature of the training, 10 min everyday is more effective than 90 mins once a week.
Yes, private lessons are available for individuals or small groups who want more personalized attention.
